Race Day

This year I didn't make a New Years Resolution. A couple months ago I decided to set a goal for myself anyways. I decided I would run a 5K. Which may not seem like a huge goal to many people but it was for me. I've never been much of a runner. I think I have only ran a mile a few times in my life and that was in PE. There is a race series here called the Centex Race series. They do a couple races a month in central Texas. Most of the races are 5k and they have a couple 10K. Today was the first race. I was a little worried last night when a huge storm blew in but the weather ended up being great. I talked a couple of my friends into running with me. I think I did pretty well. I'm not quite sure how fast I ran the times aren't posted yet. I didn't win any medals but Reagan was pretty proud of me. He is determined that I was the winner and everyone else was a looser. I'll just let him continue thinking that.

Fitness challenge update

This is a bit late, but here are the totals for April. I didn't add up the entire results. That will have to wait until this month is over (since that is just a couple of days).

We figured there was a total of 23 fitness points (exercise) for the month

Vickie - 19
Ben - 20
John - 23 plus one point for doing a race
Jill - 16
Dallen - 23 points
Marie - 10
April - 23 plus one point for writing down food and one point for losing 5 points
Abe - 8

Good luck everyone!!!

Basketball

What do you get when you have a basketball coach with two sons.

You get one son like this .....

and you have another son like this.

Rolling

Benson isn't crawling yet but he is very mobile. He can get anywhere he wants to go. Here is a video of Benson getting around in Reagan's room.

Fun Game

What would you do if you had all these cards to play with? Reagan thought 636 card pick up would be a great idea. He made the wrong choice. He threw all the cards on the ground and mixed them all up. He got to spend quite a bit of time in time out while I got to clean up the huge mess. Now lets see how long it will take before Reagan convinces me to take out the cards again to play a fun game to teach him his numbers.

Benson can sit

Benson has been able to sit on his own for awhile now. Until this week he would get mad at me whenever he realized he was doing it. He enjoys sitting all the ground playing with his toys now.

Our Trip to Texas

Here are some of the things that we did while we were at April & Abe's house. For the first couple of days I played non stop with Reagan, but then grandpa showed up and he had a whole new audience to play with.
We had lots of fun getting reaquainted with Benson. He has grown a lot. He was very happy to see us!

Reagan learned how to ride his bike all by himself for the very first time.
Abe put together the new swing set for the boys (I helped) Benson thought it was so much fun....
That he wanted to swing again and again (I always seem to goof on at least one picture )o:
The Easter bunny came.
Because it was a sunny day, the bunny hid the eggs outside while Reagan had a nap.
We drove to San Antonia and went to the Riverwalk, it was beautiful. In this picture I am not. Maybe I got too much sun!
We went to the Alamo. April and I went with the boys to San Marcos which had the third largest shopping mall in the US. We walked and walked but we were all worn out before we figured out which one of the two malls right beside each other had stores that we could afford to buy something in.
We had a great time!!!

Ian Beat Pete

Ian did it!!!!! He beat Pete by 10 seconds. And we got some cool pics.

My race went pretty well, but it wasn't nearly as impressive as Ian's. I was extremely happy with my swim yesterday, happy with my bike ride this morning, and not quite as happy with my run. The website described the run as a "mostly flat course," which was a big, fat lie. I don't know what part of the whole first mile being uphill makes it a "mostly flat course"? I need more work on hills. My final time was 1:12.02, but I'll have to wait until Monday to see the splits.

Mason also had a great day. His soccer team won its first game 5-2, and Mason scored 4 goals.

Jill's day wan't quite as enjoyable. She had to take Blake to Grandma Suzie's house, then take Mason to his soccer game, then take Ian to his race, then get to my race in time to see the finish. Unfortunately, they don't give out medals for being an awesome mom, but they should.

Hair

Benson's hair has lots of personality. I use to think I got lots of comments with Reagan's red hair. I didn't realized how many more comments I would get when I had two red heads. I was even more amazed to see the number of comments I receive when I go anywhere now that Benson has crazy red hair. I took the boys to a birthday party on Wednesday and some random lady started laughing hysterically when I walked by her with the boys. The lady stopped me to tell me how she loved Benson's hair. People always ask me if I make Benson's hair stick up like this on purpose. I don't, it is all natural. The day it snowed here, Benson's hair was flat and I thought Benson looked so strange. I've tried to get a good picture of Benson's hair. This is the best I can get. The stickups usually blend into the surroundings when I take pictures.

Here is another picture of my boys that I thought I would share just because I think it is cute.

Spring Sprint Triathlon / Beat Pete -- Part 1

Today was the first part of the spring sprint triathlon. This race is wierd in that you do the swim on friday in the pool and then the bike/run on Saturday. I did the 750 yard swim in 12:52, which I was very happy with. Now if I can only avoid crashing my bike tomorrow I should be good.

Ian was going to do the kids version of the spring sprint, but it turned out to be the same day as the Beat Coach Pete race, which is the funnest 5K of the year. You race against coach Pete and finish in Bronco stadium. If you beat coach Pete (who runs it in about 26-27 minutes) you get a T-shirt that says "I Beat Pete." If Pete beats you, you get a T-shirt that says "I'll Beat Pete Next Year." Ian is very excited, and a bit delusioned as to his abilities. We've tried to explaint to him that he shouldn't be dissapointed if he can't beat Pete, but my guess is he ends up crying tomorrow.

Stayed tuned for the results . . .
