Tea parties around the country yesterday tapped into the collective angst stirred up by a bad economy, government spending and bailouts. The rallies were directed at President Barack Obama's administration on a symbolic day: the deadline to file income taxes. Cory, the kids and I decided to head down to our local tea party protest at the State Capital, here is Boise. I have never been one for protests, although I respect those who do make a stand for what they believe in. It was really cool. Some people were dressed up like Benjamin franklin but most were just regular hard working Americans wanting their voice heard. I really admire how passionate they are. Thousands marched down to the capital and gathered in front of it where we heard a few speaches to get people riled up and we even broke out in song, singing the national anthem and other patriotic songs. They even served a roasted pig, for symbolic reasons. One thing I really liked was how peaceful the protest was. Everyone was so friendly. The protest ended with a prayer for our country. I love being a republican!
I posted some pictures of some of the signs. Enjoy!
My favorites: "Show us the birth cerificate" " I'll keep my money, my freedom, & my guns. You can keep the CHANGE!" "Yes we can! Financially enslave America" "America, Land of the homeless"
The guy who was holding the homeless sign really was homeless, I think..... I wish I would have gotten a picture of his face.
Cory made a little sign on his computer before he left work. We all got a chance to hold it. If you want to learn more about Tax freedom day click here. It is pretty amazing.
That's a really wimpy sign you guys brought. Although it does look a little better with Lauren holding it.
ReplyDeleteyou're right. You've got to remember it's tough time though. :)
ReplyDeleteSpeaking as the lone Democrat of the family...I'm not particularly crazy about Obama's tax plan myself...It doesn't fit with today's economy. I do however, agree with the spirit of change...hopefully it will turn out to be for the better.
ReplyDeleteMarie likes to think she is a democrat. She is still stuck in the college mindset that it is cool to be a democrat and that you are uncaring if you are not. However she is conservative on almost every economic issue. She just needs a little time to realize that she is actually a republican at heart.
ReplyDeleteI on the other hand will never be accused of being a democrat. I will also never be accused of being a caring person.
You should have at least had Claire color the poster or something. It sounds like you guys had fun though.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Marie, there are definetly somethings in America that we can change for the better. And I agree with you too Dallen. No one will ever confuse you for caring. LOL. Just kidding. Oh, and you're not the lone Democrat. John's one too. Just kidding, kind of....
