Will You Be My Friend?

I've been trying to find play groups and activities for Jonah and I to do. I'm actually the only one I know that has a baby...most of my friend are not even married yet so they are no help. What sorts of things are all the mommies out there doing? You'd think living in Chicago, I'd be able to find all sorts of things...well I havn't been so successfull. I really want Jonah to start interacting with other babies. Has anyone tried Gymboree? It seems expensive for what it is. The problem is is that we live in the wrong part of the city. If we lived up north there are all sorts of parks and such to go to-but it is also the very wealthy part of the city and I think you have to have the right brand of stroller to be accepted (I don't think I'm kidding). Just wondering if any of the mommies and grandmommies have any suggestions to help solve Jonah and his mommy's boredom problem. ;-)

  1. I met a lady at swim lessons that told me about a national mommy and me group. The website is mothersandmore.org

I know they have groups all over the country I never looked at the website so I don't know exactly where they have groups. She told me they meet at parks, libraries, zoos, other member houses. She really liked it and thought it was a great way to meet other moms. I think there was a $20 membership fee.

Some other ideas would be story time at the library. I am not sure if Jonah is old enough yet but who knows. I am going to start taking Reagan. You may be able to get into a mommy and me swim class at a gym or through boys and girls club. There were a few young babies in Reagan's class

Reagan has also enjoyed going to Mcdonald's play center and playing with the kids there.

Have you heard of Kindermusic? We have it hear and I know they have it in Boise also. It is mom's and tots singing and dancing to music together. I know are City website has information for us on how to sign up in Killeen. I am not sure the ages of children that go to it though.

  3. thanks! I am looking for play groups in my area and think I may have found one. I'm bummed because just as Jonah will be getting really mobile it will be the dead of winter here so going to the parks where he can see other kids won't be an option. I think at that point I will try Kindermusic or Gymboree-each offer a free class to try it out first.

Ugh-I seriously cannot wait to get out of chicago and live where real people and families live! (tired of city life)
